Who Christ Is
Greetings!
This past Sunday we reviewed that wherever we may feel the weakest, the sickest, the poorest, the saddest, or the most marginalized in our lives, that is the place in our life where we are the closest to God, for that is the very place where we learn to lean into God the most for strength, for healing, for provision, for comfort, and for empowerment. We don't lean into God in the areas of our strengths, we lean into God, and are closest to God, and most dependent upon God, in the areas of our weaknesses. David was weak in comparison to the mighty Goliath, but David faithfully depended upon the Lord to deliver him, and the Lord delivered him.
In our weakness, we come to know that Christ is strong. As we suffer, we come to understand the fellowship of Christ's sufferings. As we triumph over our adversities, we are empowered by God working in us. Paul said, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) We do not boast in our strength but in our weakness. We are all weak in some way, but we are all strong in Christ. We may all have afflictions in this life, but we have a mighty fortress for our God, a bulwark never failing. We are strong in Jesus Christ who goes before us and will never ever leave us nor ever forsake us.
Next Sunday we will begin a sermon series on Paul's letter to the Colossians. Paul wrote this letter to the Colossian church to encourage them and to help them keep their eyes fixated upon Christ. The Colossians were receiving all kinds of mixed messages and false teachings that had pulled their eyes off of Christ and they were beginning to flounder in their faith. The Colossians were beginning to lose their way, so Paul writes to them to remind them of just exactly who Christ Is – the author and finisher of their faith.
Peace of Christ,
Pastor Terry Dwyer
